    TL;DR

Stormlaw is a region of counties within the Duchy of Asebe'ia Thunar in the Kingdom of Nirath. Different counties have different focuses such as agriculture, military, breeding, commerce and research.

  • House Storm

    Introduction

Vast fields of green, proud ships filling the harbours, long and tall shelves with books about the world, and sharp steel to protect it all. Stormlaw have something for everyone's taste. Originally a term used to define the land ruled by House Storm, today Stormlaw is a region within the duchy of Asebe'ia Thunar bound by a common history and close ties of friendship.

    Governance

Stormlaw is a confederation of counties only bound by historic ties. The counts of Stormlaw have regular meetings, but no majority can force the others to decide or enact anything. All decisions made collectively by the counts of Stormlaw must be unanimous. This means that the counties all act independantly in most cases, but can make join forces on important matters.

    Policies and taxes

The counties of Stormlaw will always work towards standardising taxes and policies within their respective counties. This will make it easy to both trade and travel across borders within Stormlaw.

These are our currently enacted policies:

    Guild support programme

As trading-oriented counties, we greatly encourage the growth of guilds and companies within our boundaries. It benefits our settlements, rulers, and subjects, and it benefits you. Because of this, we would like to extend our hand in offering your guild enhancements to your business experience.

Upon establishing your guild or company headquarters in one of the county capitals of Stormlaw, you will be eligible for a reduced one-time property or plot purchase within the city. We believe budding businesses should be helped, not hindered, and monetary costs can be high. With this advantage, developing the roots of your business or guild won’t become a thorn in your side.

A Stormlaw policy, all settlements of town size or larger are required to contain a marketplace. Equally, all guilds and businesses that establish a headquarters in Stormlaw county capitals are guaranteed a free market place stall in each of the region’s marketplaces. We want your business to thrive. Market stalls are the precursors to branches that we hope will eventually be found throughout Stormlaw. Where available, you will be able to upgrade from a market stall to a shop, for a reduced price.

Where possible, guilds undergoing a start-up period will also be eligible for subsided tax rates. Again, we hope this will allow your mercantile experience to grow quickly from the start, without too much in the way of your success.

The counts of Stormlaw are currently considering an additional benefit for those willing to grow their business within our boundaries. This benefit will follow the lines of a small funding package, to aid in start-up funding of your business in return for a quota of your product. This is yet undecided.

    Lore

Although there's some discussions among scholars, most trace the history of Stormlaw about four centuries back in time to the signing of the Binding Peace when the nomadic thunarii agreed to settle down and founded the tree earldoms of Agauemore, Thunormore and Valimore. With time all these earldoms would fall under the leadership of the Stormborns, and later House Storm. About two centuries later the combined forces of Thunormore and Valimore conquered a neighbouring county and renamed it Stormwald, and places a Stormborn on its throne. The earls of these four domains, all belonging to House Storm, founded Stormlaw to further integrate the three domains, and to safeguard their existance agains foreign foes not long after this incident.

The outlier in this community is Althaia, although its legacy and fate is closely tied with the others. Not long after the Stormborn ascended the throne of Thunormore a peace treaty was formed with the County of Althaia through marriage. Although long ago, this treaty have been honoured by both sides ever since and have formed a relation stronger than blood. The counts of Althaia have ever since been close advisors and friends of the Stormborn. Because of this relationship Althaia was also included into Stormlaw.

    Get involved!

We're a sprawling community with about 60 players so far with people from all over the world. Although most of us are from Great Britian, Netherlands and Scandinavia we also have citizens from Mexico, South-Africa, Kuwait, Greece, Turkey etc. We value our diversity and look at it as one of our core strengths. Due to this diversity, our lingua franca is obviously english.

  • House Storm

    County of Agauemoret

    Introduction

Agauemore, Capital county of Asebe'ia Thunar and one of the larger counties, also the seat of power for the boss lady. Being the Capital comes with some advantages with regards to building up the County. The County offers certain benefits and support for guilds and business that settle within its borders.

Furthermore, the County is welcoming all Wards, providing infrastructure for those without a family to settle and to feel welcome in the community. Being the House of the Duchess, the country strives for the same goal, building up a friendly community where everyone feels home, regardless the lenght of stay. Indeed, opportunities will arise elsewhere and the County will support relocating as part of an initiative of the Duchess, to assure there is diversity throughout the Duchy.

At the moment some have already pledged and investment is gathered to get us started.

    Governance

We want to provide a County where you can play your game the way you like, within the setting of the Kingdom, with respect for others who will do the same. Governance will be - as far as IG mechanics allow - set up in a way to minimalise the burden on the player, no micromanagement or a big brother watching your every move.

The political structure is an autocratic County where, in principle, the Countess has the final say. Though we will provide different channels for vassals and subjects to voice their opinions and advice.

The Countess will have a small council consisting of advisors. Those counsellors will have a specific role, but the nature of their roles may vary over time. Typical the small council consists of the Countess plus the Treasurer and the Marshall, both elected by the Countess and a representative of each settlement and organisation/guild - if one wishes to join, it is no obligation - within the County.

Representatives are expected to hold an Assembly when the need arises, to discuss problems with vassals and members. At the small Council, they bring forward those problems their settlement or organisation has been faced with and that can't be solved independently. At the Small Council they might ask for support from the Countess and other settlements to deal with the situation. Collective resolutions will, when possible, be worked out by the small Council and voted on during their meetings.

    County of Althaia

    Introduction

House Viladel, as such, the County of Althaia has had a long standing alliance with House Storm and when Stormlaw was formed House Viladel welcomed the invite in to a close knit region of Asebe'ia Thunar.
For generations Althaia has maintained a peaceful County in which all can work towards their goals, however it has primarily taken up a supportive role to Stormlaw and focused heavily on agriculture (crops, breeding, plants, etc.) As such all those that follow in these directions are offered a great deal of support.

    Governance

Althaia is ultimately an Autocratic Government in which the Count has the final say in whatever decisions are made. However there is a County Council which is made up of the Founding Families of Valaris as well as the Head (or a representative) of each Settlement within the County. This Council will act as advisers and have the ability to bring forth concerns, suggestions or any general issues regarding to the County. The opinions of those that are a part of the County Council will hold greater sway and be taken on board when any decision is made.

  • House Storm

    County of Stormwald

    Introduction

For generations Stormwald has been ruled by members of House Storm, and currently by Count Finn Folcwald Storm. Stormwald is booming with commerce, research and production, and the Count wishes to work closely with all citizens to form unity and prosperity.

    Governance

Stormwald is inevitably an Autocratic Government in wich the Count has the final say in all decisions. There is a Council, however. This Council is made up of the Founders, advisors, and spokespersons of each settlement in the County. In that Council any man may speak upright about any issues that protrude, and will give advice to the Count on such issues. As such, it might dramatically change the decisionmaking of the Count.

    Money stuff

Honestly, who in their right mind likes taxes?

That's right, noone. Except Dave. But we all know what Dave is like. Unfortunately, there is not much to say on this subject as of right now, because the information so kindly provided to us by the devs isn't realy much. What I can tell you, is that I will tax the rich more than the poor, if possible. This will allow the poor people to live comfortable lives, and the rich wealthy ones.

Organisations of certain types and sizes (undertermined as of right now) will have a support programme, gaining the Count's personal support in research and grants.

  • House Storm

    County of Thunormore

    Introduction

Thunormore is one the largest counties in the Kingdom of Nirath, and the houses the original of the region of Stormlaw. It offers monetary benefits and support for guilds and business that settle in its boundaries. There's already a wide range of settlements and vassals pledged for you to choose from. Thunormore has a unique governing system that allows you creative freedom, but provides guidance and help. House Storm strives for a fun-loving and friendly community for you to enjoy!

    Governance

We, not unlike our king, Dragor, wish to provide a region of Elyria where mature-minded players can play their game the way they’d like, without too much micromanagement or intrusion from governing bodies. We want to develop our characters and habitations, and we respect that you do too!

The political structure of Thunormore is at the most basic an autocratic earldom. In principle the Earl has final say in all things, but there are plenty of channels for vassals and subjects to voice their opinions and advice.

To help the Earl in his daily business he has gathered a small council consisting of his most trusted advisors. The counsellors generally have a specific role, but the nature of their roles may vary depending on the Earl’s needs. A typical small council consists of the Earl himself, the Steward, the Chancellor, the Treasurer and the Mashall. In addition there’s a separate entity represented at the small council, but without a vote, and that is the Justiciar. The Justiciar acts as a check on the small council and the Earl, and gives advise. All the counsellors, including the Justiciar are selected by the Earl. All the chancellors may employ the advisors and helpers they need to fulfil their duties.

It is important that while every individual, be it farmer or baron, is encouraged to manage their own settlement, they also have the support of their Earl in times of need, whether that be in the form of military, food, or resources. Therefore, every barony, settlement and recognised organisation within the earldom has the right to be represented in the Assembly of Thunormore (This is a right, not an obligation!). At this assembly, vassals are encouraged to bring forward problems their settlement or organisation has been faced with, and as a collective, resolutions are agreed upon. Resolutions will only be voted on during in-game assemblies, but there’ll also be a off-game forum where resolutions, problems and so on may be voiced and discussed.

Hopefully this will promote a sense of teamwork within the community, and allows everyone the chance to have their say on matters that affect them. One town urgently requires 1000 planks of wood? The other vassals can coordinate donations of 100 planks each, for example. It is stressed that the Thunargemot is for matters of urgency, and it is encouraged that vassals seek independent resolutions first. That’s part of what makes a game fun!

    Settlements

As an earldom, Thunormore is able to offer a great deal of variety in its settlements, both in placement as well as profession. A comprehensive list of the current settlements available to you follows.
